Climate Action, Environmental Management, and Social Change

Tero places climate change at the core of its mission — recognising it as the defining challenge currently shaping our planet, societies, and economies. We focus on research, innovation, and technologies that drive both climate resilience and social well-being, supporting a just transition toward sustainable futures.

Our work promotes systemic change that integrates environmental sustainability, social equity, and economic vitality. By combining science, policy, and community engagement, we develop solutions that mitigate climate impacts, enhance adaptation capacity, and foster collaboration across sectors and disciplines.

To achieve these goals, we have implemented and continue to develop a wide range of research and development projects and activities in the following interconnected areas:

  • Climate change mitigation and adaptation
  • Nature-based solutions and ecosystem restoration
  • Decision support systems and policy support tools
  • Policy impact assessment and governance innovation
  • Biodiversity governance and conservation
  • Water resources management and climate resilience
  • Environment, energy, and sustainable transport
  • Transformative social and behavioural change
  • Environmental economics and green transition pathways

Tero supports and participates in the Management Board of Naturalliance, the portal that aims to help everyone whose work or recreation depends on nature. Naturalliance is building up the knowledge people need, in their own language, for local decisions to manage and restore land, water and wildlife, whilst recording the good work done for nature across Europe.
